Abstract

The way of waging war has changed at a dizzying pace in recent decades, supported mainly by the unprecedented advancement of technology and greater access to higher capacity weapon systems. This poses a challenge to the great powers, who now find their traditional adversaries possessing capabilities that threaten their control of domains which, until a few decades ago, they had absolute hegemony. Multi-Domain Operations are the response to neutralize the abilities that their adversaries have obtained. Such operations seek to reposition said hegemony through the synergy of military forces and by obtaining advantages in one domain to support operations in another, thereby maximizing their effects on the battlefield. This paper presents the challenges that commanders will face while operating in the multi-domain environment, as well as the capacities that must be developed to effectively apply military power in this new way.
