Multidimensional Critical View of Safety and Security Threats as the Secretary for Multidimensional Security of the OAS

Abstract

The security concept generates interpretations and derivations. The OAS in 2003 unveiled the Declaration on Security in the Americas. Since that date, actions have carried out in order to improve safety levels in America. However, the continent continues to have high rates of drug trafficking, organi- zed crime, smuggling, terrorism, human trafficking, cyber attacks, territorial claims and extreme poverty. The purpose of this article is to present a vision of the concept of Multidimensional Security, in order to identify the main elements that prevent this conceptualization from manifesting at all. A summary of the evolution of Multidimensional Security term is presented and a critical analysis will be conducted regarding its implementation.
