Conceptual approach to the function of sustainment forces in military operations

Abstract

National policies have opted for the doctrine of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) for the preparation and use of force in a joint manner, and it is necessary to establish its effects in the sustainment of military operations, through the analysis of experiences in conflicts, of the doctrines of NATO, USA. and Spain and the new trends. This research aims to generate a conceptual basis that allows defining and relating the most relevant aspects of sustainment, a relatively new joint function and vital for the success of operations, but which presents different interpretations, sometimes understood as synonymous with logistics, in others as a logistics principle or else it is integrated with civil matters, confusing therefore the activities that comprise it.
