The Spanish press and their treatment of the Gaza conflict

Abstract

The media coverage of the armed conflicts is one of the most relevants matter when it comes to design the foreign policy of a country. The 2014 ́s Gaza Conflict known as Operation Protective Edge carried out by the Israeli Armed Forces had a big media repercussion in Spain, as a cause of the high number of civilian deaths. This paper tries to portray and analyze the media coverage of this episode by Spanish newspapers: El Mundo, ABC, and El País during Gaza conflict of 2014, while paying special attention to their treatment of Hamas, the support to the Israeli ́s government policy as well as to the conceptual frames used through the content analysis.
