The EU political dialogue with the Community of Latin America and the Caribbean States

Abstract

This article revises the European Union’s Global Strategy for its Foreign Policy and Security, published in June 2016. The EU Global Strategy declares the necessity to get stronger, since it will face a world scenario characterized by instability, uncertainty and insecurity. The Strategy also considers to increase cooperation and build a stronger partnership with Latin America and the Caribbean, in order to foster political dialogue and cooperation to preserve security and peace in the region. Therefore, the document does not differ significantly from what it has been declared by the European Union since 1999. The present study is oriented to determine whether the mentioned strategy promotes innovative coopera- tion initiatives in security issues, which effectively contribute to face the 21st century challenges.
