Abstract

The technological development of the First Industrial Revolution would bring about a considerable geographical extension of warfare, as well as the French Revolution, an increase in the size of armies, making the art of war significantly more complex. In this sense, the Napoleonic wars marked a turning point, where tactics grew to such an extent that they could not be conducted by the strategist, highlighting the figure of Jomini, who would propose a geometric solution that would lay the foundations of operational art. Consequently, the aim to this article is to carry out an analysis of Jomini's contribution to the art of war and to a large part of the elements of operational design that are used in modern armies to this day.
