An Analysis of the Mission

Abstract

This paper analyses the problem regarding the question, Should the mission be defined by the higher commander or should be deduced by the unit itself? In order to answer this question, the author conducts his reasoning using the doctrine of the Chilean Army, analyzing the concept “mission” and sustaining from its relationship with the concept “objective” that, ultimately, the mission must be defined by the higher echelon and explicitly given to its subordinate units.
