Latin American Strategic Context. Defense and Security Challenges in the XXI Century

Abstract

To project the Security and Defense in Chile must try to understand the political and strategic guidance to the country level. That way we could establish trends that will possibly security and defense sector. In this regard, claims regional territory not seem to demonstrate the use of force as a likely alternative between state actors, while the challenges (risks and threats) of organized crime seems to be the focus of security, while the defense to accommodate the requirements to support mitigate this scourge. Furthermore, Chile is appreciated distant majority currents in the region to nationalize natural resources classified as strategic for its global shortage (oil, water, etc.), which keeps him on a path of continuity in policies of global insertion open regionalism, which has a relationship with the projection in the defense, which ultimately would be presented with an agenda rather linked to the transparency of the sector and state support in their vulnerabilities, such as natural disasters, cyber defense reforms, among others.
