Hygiene Considerations for Field Units

Abstract

It is known that non-combat casualties can easily exceed those produced in combat and a large group of them is related to insect-borne diseases or related to overcrowding, food contamination and poor sanitation conditions. NATO has considered a number of dispositions relating to Environment and Environmental Sanitation. In modern warfare all Strategic Planning must consider the provisions relating to terrain conditions, water supply, food hygiene, waste management, pest control and environment, fi- ght is no excuse for not contemplate them. A proper planning includes the creation of a multidisciplinary team, allocation of responsibilities at all levels and in all phases of the conflict and finally, control and evaluation mechanisms.
