Abstract

The article analyses the South American Defense Council from the regional strategic autonomy perspective. In this connection, it suggests that the South American Defense Council, while promoting cooperation among its members, has become a key instrument to support the international insertion of South America and its capacity of influence in global decision-making. Moreover, the paper sustains that Chile has been a firm advocate of the South American Defense Council since its creation, even though its participation has been characterized by moderation and pragmatism.
